Get ready to be transported to Broadway as Christmas comes alive at Sungei Wang Plaza.
Themed "Christmas on Broadway", there will be singing, instrumental solos, energetic dances and band per formances by professional and multi-talented performers to mesmerise shoppers between now and Dec 25.
According to Sungei Wang Plaza senior marketing communications manager K.K. Lim, the idea of having "Christmas on Broadway" is to replicate the famous energetic musical performances in New York during Christmas season. Members of the Broadway Academy Malaysia, well known locally and in Southeast Asia for their theatrical projects such as Dream Girls, will be showcasing their talent.
"The audience can expect a whole lot of stage shows that include singing, dancing and storytelling. These shows will not only attract locals during Christmas, but also tourists who can have a taste of Malaysian Christmas on Broadway," says Lim.
Imagine singing in the "largest group choir", accompanied by the BATS Wind Ensemble, as they play Christmas carols such as Sleigh Ride, Joy to the World, Happy Holidays, We Need A Little Christmas and more.
Get a feel of the Christmas Gala on Broadway at 7.30pm tomorrow (Dec 13) and at 2pm over the weekend (Dec 14 and 15). The Candy Girl Christmas show at 7.30pm on Dec 20, and at 2pm on Dec 21 and 22, will transport shoppers back to the 1950s and 60s with popular hits such as Lollipop, I Will Survive, Let It Snow and Last Christmas.
The excitement does not end there as the hunt for "The Best of Priscilla Search", a drag queen competition final, will take place on Dec 15 at the Concourse Level. Twenty contestants have been shortlisted earlier this month after portraying their best acts and looks of Priscilla. Contestants will be judged on their showmanship, talent and crowd response. Prizes worth more than RM4,500 await the winners.
Christmas carollers will be serenading the crowd with their angelic voices at the Concourse Level on Dec 12, 18, 19 and 23 at 7.30pm. To spice up the Christmas mood, come meet Santa Claus for a photography session at 3pm on Dec 14, 15, 21, 22, 23 and 24 at the Concourse Level.
The stage at Sungei Wang Plaza has been adorned with sparkling ornaments and lights. Covered in red carpet, the centrepiece is constructed to resemble the geometric graffiti of a clock, accompanied by a huge royal yellow cardboard sticker gantry to portray the theme.
Six Christmas trees with sparkling ornaments and ribbons have been arranged around it. Yellow lights are placed beneath the stairs and around the area to bring out the "live stage look".
Gift wrap services are available for free between now and Dec 25 at the Customer Service Counter on the Lower Ground Floor. Shoppers who purchase a minimum of RM100 in accumulated receipts on the same day are entitled to participate in the "Shop & Fly Lucky Draw" to win an Air France premium economy ticket to a European destination.
