STPM: Most States Record Over 90 Per Cent Pass Rate

Most states recorded better results in last years's Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) examination, with some achieved over 90 per cent pass rate for one to five subjects.

In PAHANG, 2,363 or 99.08 per cent of the candidates in the state scored full passes compared to 98.07 per cent the previous year.

State Education director Rosdi Ismail said of that number, 0.55 per cent of the candidates obtained full passes in five subjects (5Ps) and 72.29 per cent scored full passes in four subjects (4Ps).

He said the number of candidates who managed to score 3.0 Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) rose to 844 candidates or 35.99 per cent compared to 30.82 per cent in 2013.

In Negeri Sembilan, State Education Director Datuk Kalsom Khalid said 1,242 of 1,263 candidates or 98.3 per cent passed with at least one principal and 14 students scored a CGPA of 4.00.


In PENANG, the state Education director Datuk Osman Hussain said a total of 2,372 or 97.05 per cent of 2,444 candidates managed to get full passes, a 0.23 per cent decrease compared to 2013.

He said 50 candidates obtained excellent results of 4.00 CGPA, while 30 candidates passed with five principals and another 1,619 passed with four principals.

In SELANGOR, the state Education deputy director Mohd Salleh Mohd Kassim said 97.05 per cent of 4,409 candidates scored full passes for all subjects taken in last year's STPM.

"Two candidates obtained excellent results of straight As in five subjects, while 51 candidates got straight As in four subjects," he said.

Meanwhile, KL Federal Territory Education director Datin Nawal Salleh said a total of 1,044 of 1,074 candidates or 97.21 per cent scored full passes at the principal level, a decrease of 0.57 per cent compared to 2013. She said 27 candidates managed to pass with an A in five or four subjects and obtained a CGPA of 4.00 compared to 38 candidates in the previous year's results.

In KEDAH, State Education director Datin Azuyah Hassan in a statement said Kedah recorded a 0.53 per cent improvement, with 98.88 per cent of the candidates passing the examination for last year, compared to 98.35 per cent in 2013.

She said 28 candidates obtained a CGPA of 4.00 compared to 33 candidates in 2013.

In SABAH, state Education director Datuk Jame Alip said 5,903 of 6,069 or 97.28 per cent of last year's candidates also obtained full passes.

He said 16 candidates scored a CGPA of 4.00 compared to 15 in the previous year.

In PERAK, State Education deputy director Zulkurnaini Hussin said 3,892 of 3,971 candidates managed to score full passes.

"Of that number, 48 candidates passed with five principals and another 2,689 passed with four principals," he told reporters in IPOH.

He said 53 students scored a CGPA of 4.00, a decrease of 1.33 per cent compared to 2013.

In MELAKA, State Education director Datuk Md Rashid Hussin said a total of 1,215 out of 1,228 of 2014 STPM candidates obtained full passes, an increase of 0.38 per cent compared to the previous year.

He said 813 candidates managed to score four principals compared to 957 in 2013.

In JOHOR, 43 candidates in the state achieved a CGPA of 4.00 in last year's STPM compared to 77 candidates in 2013.

The state Education director Aminudin Adam said the total number of candidates who scored full passes in one to five subjects recorded a 0.18 increase to 4,790 students compared to 6,009 in 2013.

He said 55 of 90 schools scored 100 per cent passes, while the state's CGPA grade was maintained at 2.70.

In TERENGGANU, rural candidates have shown an encouraging achievement with 737 students managing to get 5Ps and 4Ps compared to 716 urban candidates.

The state Education director Zakaria Hussin said the number of candidates who scored full passes with 5Ps and 4Ps had also increased to 73.31 per cent in 2014 compared to 64.23 per cent in 2013.

In KELANTAN, a total of 2,649 or 70.96 per cent of the candidates from government-aided schools managed to obtain 5Ps and 4Ps result compared to 3,422 in 2013.

In PERLIS, state Education director Roslee Ismail said 477 of 485 candidates passed with at least one principal.

In SARAWAK, a total of 4,834 candidates or 97.34 per cent passed compared to 5,897 candidates or 96 per cent the previous year.

According to the statement from Sarawak Education Department, 40 candidates or 0.81 per cent managed to score a CGPA of 4.00 compared to 39 in 2013.
