Rozita Rohaizad To Deliver Rap Version Of "Kenek-kenek" At Canberra National Multicultural Festival 2015
Singer and actress Rozita Rohaizad will sing a rap song at the Canberra National Multicultural Festival 2015 which will be held for two days from Feb 13.
The daughter of veteran actress Mariani, whose real name was Mariam Ismail, said it was a challenge for her to sing rap as she had a soft voice, but she was looking at it as a chance to prove that she was a multi-talented singer.
"My performances on February 13 and 14 will be based on the concept of 'Flavours of Malaysia' which includes traditional songs like Joget Budaya, Kenek-Kenek, Manusia and Jelingan Manja.
"The 30-minute show will be accompanied by dancers who are Malaysian students in Canberra, Melbourne and Sydney," she told Bernama, here, today.
Rozita said the purpose of the festival was to showcase the different cultures from all over the world.
"I am following my aunt's footsteps (the late legendary singer/actress Saloma) as she sang in Australia in 1958, and I did not expect to be performing in the same country," said Rozita, who will be wearing traditional costumes designed by famed fashion designer, Salikin Sidek.
Commenting on being selected to go to Canberra, Rozita said she had submitted her portfolio on her singing career to her representatives in Australia before being selected to represent Malaysia at the carnival.
Rozita began her career in 1978, singing songs by composer Ahmad Nawab.
Among the songs in her album are Hari Yang Kunantikan and Kekal Abadi, while her recorded singles are Kenek-Kenek and a Hari Raya song, Raikan Lebaran.
