Abduction:Kidnappers may have been strangers
The six suspects, including a teenager, behind the abduction of a five-year-old boy may have been business partners.
“However, police are not dismissing the possibility that they were strangers who banded together to carry out the crime,” said South Klang OCPD Asst Comm Kamarul Zaman Mamat.
The child was snatched away by two men from the bedroom of his family house in Taman Maznah, Klang, at about 2am on Jan 22.
Nine days later, he was rescued from an apartment in Port Dickson by Bukit Aman’s Special Task Force on Organised Crime and the Selangor Criminal Investigation Department.
The six were arrested in Port Dickson and Subang Permai, Subang Jaya.
ACP Kamarul said with the arrests the case was closed.
“We are waiting for the hospital to release the medical report,” he said.
“We need the report to ascertain the type of substance used to drug the child.”
ACP Kamarul also confirmed reports that the abductors had planned to kill the child and dispose his body.
“Based on information gathered, the suspects were planning to murder the boy because his parents were not coming up with the ransom,” he said.
“They would have carried out the task if police did not stop them in time.”
ACP Kamarul said he visited the child on Monday and had a chat with him.
“He is very active now,” he added.
The culprits sent an SMS to the child’s father, a businessman, demanding ransom in three different currencies – US$100,000 (RM362,442), A$100,000 (RM282,386) and RM200,000.
ACP Kamarul said police were investigating why the ransom was demanded in three different currencies.
