1Malaysia Discount Card
The Malaysian armed forces and students in local public universities all possess the 1Malaysia Discount Card (KDR1M) which entitles them to discounts on daily necessities. The Information, Communications and Culture Ministry just announced that this will soon be available for all Malaysians!
A discount card is to be issued at no charge to Malaysians, under a special project by Informasi Malaysia (Info-Malaysia).
Its chairman Datuk Abdul Rahman Manan said a two-year contract had been signed with the merchants for the proposed 1Malaysia People's Discount Card (KDR1M) programme, under which holders would enjoy a wide range of products and services at discounted rates. The list includes selected clinics, hotels, restaurants, spas and apparel stores.
“We have already designed the card which will be presented to the Prime Minister.
“We need to discuss with the Government the mechanism to implement the discount programme,” he said after the launch of the Info-Malaysia headquarters at Precinct 15 here yesterday.
Abdul Rahman, who is also 1Malaysia Government Pensioners Club secretary-general, hoped that the card would be issued as soon as possible.
Deputy Information, Communications and Culture Minister Datuk Maglin D'Cruz said the discount was open to all Malaysians.
“There are already discount cards for the army, police and undergraduates but with the KDR1M, every Malaysian can enjoy discounts for the purchase of their daily needs.
“This will extend convenience to all the people,” he said in his speech. ~ The Star
