Engaged couple lose weight together only to call off the wedding

Engaged couple lose weight together only to call off the wedding

A engaged couple who wanted to lose weight so they could wrap their arms around each other during the first dance at their reception lost a staggering 328lbs between them - then called off their wedding at the last minute.

Shane Graves, 40, and Marissa Schnell, 32, from Plant City, Florida, were engaged for the last year of their seven year courtship, but the two, who never spent any time apart, put off their wedding because they knew they were extremely overweight. While 5'10" Marissa weighed 255lbs, Shane clocked in at 467lbs and was dubbed a 'heart attack waiting to happen'.

Marissa, who vowed to get healthier, wrote an impassioned letter to trainers Chris and Heidi Powell from the ABC reality show Extreme Weight Loss in hopes that the couple would take on their case and help her and her partner Shane change their unhealthy lifestyles and walk down the aisle once and for all - but only one of her dreams came true.

The couple met in 2007, and while Marissa admitted that she didn't like Shane at first, she cannot image her life without him now.

Last year, Shane won tickets to a private Jennifer Nettles concert and convinced the country start to help him propose during the Q&A session at the event.

However, Shane and Marissa have yet to make any wedding plans.

'I think that if we would have been healthy we would have been married a lot time ago,' she explained. 'We just put it off.'

It was also at a Jennifer Nettles concert that Chris and Heidi brought Shane and Marissa on stage and revealed that they were taking on their case.

Both Shane and Marissa have faced hardships that caused them to put on weight.

Marissa's father killed himself and during the course of her relationship with Shane, she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) and went into a deep depression.

'I thought my life was over,' she explained. Meanwhile, Shane's began to gain massive amounts of weight after his first marriage started to deteriorate. When he tried to seek custody of his only child during their bitter divorce battle, he learned that his daughter wasn't biologically his.

Shane credited Marissa for making his 'life worth living'. However, Shane's weight was already out of control. He had to sleep with an oxygen mask on at night and Marissa had woken up multiple times to find that he wasn't breathing.

'I am killing myself just like her father did,' Shane told the cameras.

'I need you to change because I want you to be here,' Marissa told him. 'I want to have babies with you and grow old together.'

Marissa had already started her weight loss journey on her own, but had difficulty getting Shane, who desperately needed to shed pounds, on board.

Chris noted that Marissa was one of the smallest people they have worked and would have never taken her on if it wasn't for Shane's ailing health.

When Marissa learned that Shane weighed 467lbs, she said: 'It just breaks my heart. I feel like I enable him'.

After the split, Heidi visited Marissa in Ohio and learned that she cut her hair and moved in with her mom. She also started volunteering at a Suicide Prevention Center. Marissa explained that she was not dating, but added that 'it's fun being single'.

Meanwhile, Shane fell in love with Arizona and decided to move there. When Chris went to visit him he was worried that the breakup would cause him to turn to old habits, but when Shane opened the door, he looked thinner than ever.

Because of their breakup, Shane and Marissa did their final weigh-ins separately.

It was revealed that Marissa clocked in at 169lbs after losing a total of 89lbs, and Shane had whittled down to 225lbs, which qualified him for skin removal surgery. And his 242lb weight loss gave him the Extreme Weight Loss record of most weight lost in six months.

Dolphin lover: Malcolm Brenner said 'Sex with dolphin was like making love to the ocean'

Dolphin lover: Malcolm Brenner said 'Sex with dolphin was like making love to the ocean'

A man who had sex with a dolphin has said it felt like he was “making love with the ocean itself”.

Malcolm Brenner also revealed how the encounter was the most “intimate” he had ever experienced.

The 63-year-old was speaking after the release of a controversial film that details his sexual experiences with a dolphin called Dolly.

Called Dolphin Lover, the film details Malcolm’s relationship with the dolphin during the 1970s.

In a recent interview, the self-confessed Zoophile, said having sex with Dolly was almost a spiritual moment.

Speaking to Jezebel, he said: "It felt like I was making love with the ocean itself. It felt like, first of all, that I had forgiven myself—gotten over my hesitations about finally giving her what she wanted.

"When I had that realisation, then it just seemed there was this energy surging between us, growing more intense.”

The twice-married American said that the time spent with Dolly was the most intimate of his life, adding: “It stepped right over the species line.

"The dolphin, I know, was just as aware. She'd had to elude a male dolphin to get to me.”

At the time of the 'relationship' in 1971, Brenner was a photographer and had access to the pool at the former theme park in Sarasota Florida, where he lived.

Brenner has previously talked about his encounter in a novel called Wet Goddess.

In his recent interview, he also expanded on his attraction to animals and defended owning a dog - arguing that he was not turned on by every animal he sees.

He said: "I'm attracted to animals that have a rather independent streak in them.

"Animals that think for themselves.

"In addition to the dolphin, the only animal I ever had any sexual experience with is canines."

Cat Rescues Baby: Masha The Cat Keep Baby Warm In Obninsk, Russia

An abandoned baby in Russia was saved this week thanks to the care of a homeless cat.

The baby, believed to be no more than than 3 months old, was found Saturday in the entrance way to an apartment in the town of Obninsk, about an hour and a half southwest of Moscow, according to Agence France Presse, an international news agency based in Paris. Temperatures outside were several degrees below freezing.

After hearing the baby's cries, one of the residents opened her front door and spotted the baby on the floor, with the cat sitting beside it, licking it and trying to warm it, according to Russian video news agency Ruptly. The woman, who happened to be a nurse, said she found a bag with baby food and diapers with the child.

Police have launched a search for the parents while the baby is being cared for in a hospital.

Being vegan and still strong

Vegan and strong

SCOTT Jurek, 40, is an ultramarathoner and is the US record holder for the 24-hour run, fitting 266.7km into a single day. He won the Badwater race twice - a 217km track through California's Death Valley. He has won the 100-mile Western States Endurance Run seven times.

And he is a vegan, a diet he is on since 1999.

He said the decision to become vegan was gradual and mentally, it was a really tough move to take.

Before that, he was eating fast food four times a week, hated vegetables and despised running.

In college, his diet began to improve. When he was working as physical therapist in hospital he saw how disease is lifestyle-related and began to make the transition to eat less meat and more fish, then eventually stays off dairy and other animal products entirely.

When he became vegan in 1999, he won the Western States 100-mile run for the first time. He claimed that all his major wins happened after he changed his diet. He was quoted as saying that the diet is one of those things that really impacted his health and recovery and training, and it's a big reason for his consistency with race results.

"A lot of people think ultramarathoning has long-term damaging effects on your body. That's where I feel the diet has played a huge role. As a result, my body is able to withstand all the demands I put on it. It's longevity in the sport."

Jurek focused on eating whole, plant-based foods. These include healthy fats, whole grains, legumes, soy protein such as tempeh, tofu, and miso, nuts, seeds, fruits and vegetables. He also eats organic foods as much as possible. Usually, 80 to 90 per cent of his diet comprises organic foods.

He also co-wrote a memoir-biography with nutritional advice and recipes titled Eat and Run: My Unlikely Journey To Ultramarathon Greatness.

Eureka! Gold found growing in eucalyptus trees

Gold found growing in eucalyptus trees

Geoscientists in Perth have discovered gold particles in the leaves, twigs and bark of eucalyptus trees, claiming a "eureka" moment which could revolutionise gold mining.

CSIRO researchers believe the trees, sitting on top of gold deposits buried deep underground, suck up the gold in their search for moisture during times of drought.

"We weren't expecting this at all," Dr Melvyn Lintern, a research geochemist at the CSIRO and the study's lead author, said.

"To actually see the gold particles in the leaves was quite a eureka moment for us."

Dr Lintern said the trees appear to be telling scientists what is happening under the earth's surface.

"The particular trees that we did the research on appear to be bringing up gold from a remarkable 30 metres depth, which is about the equivalent of a 10-storey building," he said.

The research group used the CSIRO's Maia detector for x-ray elemental imaging at the Australian Synchrotron in Melbourne to analyse extremely small particles at high resolution.

The portions of gold are about one-fifth the diameter of a human hair. Dr Lintern said even 500 trees growing over a gold deposit would only yield enough gold for a wedding ring.

The researchers said they have also found gold in the leaves of other trees, such as the Acacia mulga.

"We've actually found gold not only in trees but in shrubs that are growing beneath the trees as well, so (it is) not restricted to any particular trees at all," Dr Lintern said.

Discovery could make exploration cheap, quicker

The discovery, the first of its kind in the world and the first time gold particles have been found in living material, will undoubtedly generate huge interest from within the gold mining and exploration industry.

Former Newmont Mining Geochemist, Nigel Radford, says the implications for gold exploration are huge.

"A lot of this stuff has been speculated about for some time, but the identification of the gold particles in the leaf materials is completely convincing and very, very important for the future of mineral exploration," said Mr Radford, who has worked in mineral exploration his entire working life, most recently with US-based Newmont, one of the world's biggest gold mining companies.

Mr Radford believes it has the potential to make gold exploration much quicker and cheaper.

"Ideally, any mineral exploration team would like to collect their samples on-surface," he said.

"If you can sample on-surface, it saves all the cost and all the time involved in drilling holes."

Inspiration Story For The Soul

Inspiration Story

I was walking around in a Big Bazaar store making shopping, when I saw a Cashier talking to a boy couldn't have been more than 5 or 6 years old.

The Cashier said, 'I'm sorry, but you don't have enough money to buy this doll.

Then the little boy turned to me and asked: ''Aunty, are you sure I don't have enough money?'' I counted his cash and replied: ''You know that you don't have enough money to buy the doll, my dear.'' The little boy was still holding the doll in his hand. Finally, I walked toward him and I asked him who he wished to give this doll to. 'It's the doll that my sister loved most and wanted so much . I wanted to Gift her for her BIRTHDAY. I have to give the doll to my mommy so that she can give it to my sister when she goes there.' His eyes were so sad while saying this. 'My Sister has gone to be with God. Daddy says that Mommy is going to see God very soon too, so I thought that she could take the doll with her to give it to my sister. '' My heart nearly stopped. The little boy looked up at me and aid: 'I told daddy to tell mommy not to go yet. I need her to wait until I come back from the mall.' Then he showed me a very nice photo of him where he was laughing.

He then told me 'I want mommy to take my picture with her so my sister won't forget me.' 'I love my mommy and I wish she doesn't have to leave me, but daddy says that she has to go to be with my little sister. ' Then he looked again at the doll with sad eyes, very quietly.

I quickly reached for my wallet and said to the boy. 'Suppose we check again, just in case you do have enough money for the doll?'' 'OK' he said, I hope I do have enough.' I added some of my money to his with out him seeing and we started to count it. There was enough for the doll and even some spare money.

The little boy said: 'Thank you God for giving me enough money! ' Then he looked at me and added, 'I asked last night before I went to sleep for God to make sure I had enough money to buy this doll, so that mommy could give It to my sister. He heard me!'' 'I also wanted to have enough money to buy a white rose for my mommy, but I didn't dare to ask God for too much. But He gave me enough to buy the doll and a white rose.

My mommy loves white roses.' I finished my shopping in a totally different state from when I started. I couldn't get the little boy out of my mind..

Then I remembered a local news paper article two days ago, which mentioned a drunk man in a truck, who hit a car occupied by a young woman and a little girl. The little girl died right away, and the mother was left in a critical state. The family had to decide whether to pull the plug on the life-sustaining machine, because the young woman would not be able to recover from the coma. Was this the family of the little boy?

Two days after this encounter with the little boy, I read in the newspaper that the young woman had passed away.. I couldn't stop myself as I bought a bunch of white roses and I went to the funeral home where the body of the young woman was exposed for people to see and make last wishes before her burial.

She was there, in her coffin, holding a beautiful white rose in her hand with the photo of the little boy and the doll placed over her chest.

I left the place, teary-eyed, feeling that my life had been changed for ever. The love that the little boy had for his mother and his sister is still, to this day, hard to imagine. And in a fraction of a second, a drunk driver had taken all this away from him.

PLEASE DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE.
THE VALUE OF A MAN OR WOMAN RESIDES IN WHAT HE OR SHE GIVES,
NOT IN WHAT HE OR SHE IS CAPABLE OF RECEIVING.

Tazkirah: Awesome Conversation between Allah and a Man

Awesome Conversation between Allah and a Man.

Man: Allah, can I ask You a question?

Allah: Sure

Man: Why did You let so much stuff happen to me today?

Allah: What do u mean?

Man: Well, I woke up late

Allah: Yes

Man: My car took forever to start

Allah: Okay

Man: at lunch they made my sandwich wrong & I had to wait

Allah: Huummm

Man: On the way home, my phone went DEAD, just as I picked up a call

Allah: All right

Man: And on top of it all off, when I got home ~I just want to soak my feet in my new foot massager & relax. BUT it wouldn’t work!!! Nothing went right today! Why did You do that?

Allah: Let me see, the death angel was at your bed this morning & I had to send one of My Angels to battle him for your life. I let you sleep through that

Man (humbled): OH

Allah: I didn’t let your car start because there was a drunk driver on your route that would have hit you if you were on the road.

Man: (ashamed)

Allah: The first person who made your sandwich today was sick & I didn’t want you to catch what they have, I knew you couldn’t afford to miss work.

Man (embarrassed): Okay

Allah: Your phone went dead bcuz the person that was calling was going to give false witness about what you said on that call, I didn’t even let you talk to them so you would be covered.

Man (softly): I see Allah

Allah: Oh and that foot massager, it had a shortage that was going to throw out all of the power in your house tonight. I didn’t think you wanted to be in the dark.

Man: I’m Sorry Allah

Allah: Don’t be sorry, just learn to Trust Me…. in All things , the Good & the bad.

Man: I will trust You.

Allah: And don’t doubt that My plan for your day is Always Better than your plan.

Man: I won’t Allah. And let me just tell you Allah, Thank You for Everything today.

Allah: You’re welcome. It was just another day being your Allah and I Love looking after u all

Why Do we feel sleepy in Prayer,

But stay awake through a 3 hour movie?

Why are we so bored when we look at the HOLY BOOK,

But find it easy to read other books?

Why is it so easy to ignore a msg about Allah,

Yet we forward the nasty ones?

Why are Prayers getting smaller,

But bars and clubs are expanding?

Why is it so easy to worship a celebrity,

But very difficult to engage with Allah?

Read it and don’t forget to share it with your friends.

Islamic Motivation: THE OBEDIENT FATHER AND THE OBEDIENT SON

THE OBEDIENT FATHER AND THE OBEDIENT SON

When adhering to truth to fulfil worldly desires, most people become seekers of truth. But when adhering to truth leads to problems, the seekers of truth are few in number.

Shaytaan sometimes whisper logical reasoning in the minds of people against the commandments of Allah but there are pious slaves of Allah who do not pay heed to such whisperings of Shaytaan and fulfil the commandments of their Lord, however difficult it may seem.

Shaytaan tried to persuade both Ibrahim and Ismail (peace be upon them) to give up the commandment of Allah. But both of them being obedient slaves of Allaah didn't listen to Shaytaan.

Ibrahim Khaleelullaah gave priority to commandment of Allah over his nafs.
Ibrahim Khaleelullaah gave priority to his responsibility over his pleasure.
Ibrahim Khaleelullaah gave priority to his Love for Allah over his Love for son.

Alhamdulillah, this obedient father had an obedient son, Ismail (peace be upon them both).

Ismail (peace be upon him) also submitted to Allah's will. Realizing his father's distress, Ismail (peace be upon him) gave him these comforting words which Allah has mentioned in His Glorious Qur'an,

“O my father! Do that which you are commanded, In shaa’ Allaah (if Allah wills), you shall find me of As-Saabiroon (the patient).”

(Qur'an 37:102)

Subhaan'Allaah. May Allah make us obedient to Himself and May he guide us to the path of those whom He has favored. We ask Allah to help us to do all that He loves and is pleasing to Him, and to grant us and you and all of our brothers refuge from misleading temptations, for He is Ever Near and Ready to respond.

How to survive the Euro 2012 season

How to survive the Euro 2012 season
One of the indigenous tribes in Sarawak has an informal tradition when it comes to marking time and distances. It seems such things are measured by the amount of time one takes to smoke a cigarette.

For instance, if you ask how far away one longhouse is located from another longhouse, the person would say "one cigarette".

In fact, there was apparently at least one time in court when a victim of a crime was asked how long it took for the perpetrator to commit the said offence. The reply was: "Half a cigarette".

How this works one can only guess, as one would think that different people take different amounts of time to smoke a stick.

With the crazy season called the European Championship upon us now, you just know that the number of cigarettes being smoked will definitely increase, and what's more, the more fanatical fans will likely take an even shorter time to smoke that cancer stick.

And that's not all that will cause football fans to cut their lives shorter by a few minutes.

Once every two years, football fanatics will spend about a month losing sleep as they tune into late- night games at either the Euros or the Fifa World Cup. The only exception was in 2002 when the World Cup was played in South Korea and Japan and football fans in Malaysia could watch matches at a godly hour.

With the Euros this year being played at either midnight or 2.45am Malaysian time, fans here will once again be staying up late for the sake of watching the "beautiful game". Or, if you're not a football fan, "22 men chasing a ball around a field".

The lack of sleep cannot be good for the body. But that's not the only thing that will be compromised by the football fever which grips so many nations around the world.

Sleepy-eyed football fans in Asia, especially, will be walking into their offices looking like extraterrestrials whose eyes have no whites.

They will be drinking litres of coffee each day to stay awake. If possible, they would have a caffeine drip permanently attached to their arms.

Of course, the more fanatical may actually take the entire month off from work just so they can spend their days like vampires, sleeping, sans the coffins.

But for most of us who can't afford to waste our annual leave days, the red-eyed, un-ironed, unshaven, homeless look will be the order of the day, haute couture from Milan, Paris and where-have-you be damned.

You'll also find people sleeping in their cars during lunch breaks, sneaking off for naps in toilet cubicles, or just snoring at their desks.

But let's not forget that our employers pay us to work, so perhaps some tips are necessary to beat the fatigue that is sure to hit us football fans in the next month or so.

First of all, try to sleep early. Catching a few hours of sleep a night and waking up for the games will at least allow us to recharge those batteries.

Second, try not to watch all the games. Just like a military commander picks and chooses the field of battle, perhaps we can pick and choose which games we should watch.

Third, and this ties in with the second suggestion, record the games you don't need to watch "live". With Astro's PVR these days, you can do that.

And, finally, there are also delayed telecasts and replays on the tube, so you can catch those as well.

Tall order for football junkies intent on watching live telecasts? For sure. But still doable.

Yes, if you record a game or wait for a replay of the match, you'd probably know the result already. But is it worth losing sleep over?

And spare a thought for your better half, unless he or she is a football fanatic as well. If not, you may just find yourself sleeping with the dog, or completely out on the street.

Of course, if a football fan does find himself out on the street, chances are he'll be spending it at the local 24-hour restaurant watching the games anyway.

As for me, I'll be trying to watch only the games I think will be exciting. But like I said earlier, tall order for a football junkie.

So wish me luck, and I'll do the same for you.

Lina Teoh's terrifying road bully experience

Lina Teoh's terrifying road bully encounter set alarm bells off on social networking sites yesterday. Lina Teoh became the second runner-up at the Miss World contest in 1998.

The ordeal, narrated through a status update on her Facebook page, received close to 2,000 shares since she posted it on Monday, creating buzz and sprouting numerous discussions on the rising level of crime in the capital city.

Teoh, who is also an actress and documentary producer, said the incident took place at 10.30am on Monday as she was coming out of the normally crowded roundabout at Jalan Duta to head towards Jalan Kuching.

"A motorbike hit the front of my car from the left. As I was driving very slow, almost stationary, the impact was almost nothing but still the motorcyclist fell down and grabbed his leg like he'd been hit and injured, which was impossible because he hardly touched my car!" she said.

The man, she added, then began yelling and demanded that she pay RM300 for damages although it appeared there was no damage to either vehicle.

Lina Teoh

"I had already RM50 on standby to give him in exchange for a peaceful outcome even though it wasn't my fault in the first place and I knew I was being taken for a ride."

"He continued to argue with me saying what about his medical bills, etc even though he had no injury," she said.

Seeing the commotion, a passing motorcyclist stopped and found out what happened from Teoh.

"He said "Ma'am, if it wasn't your fault then you don't have to pay him, just leave"," she said.

But as she walked towards the car, the man followed her and repeatedly asked her for her personal details, including her phone number.

"I suddenly felt more threatened by this new guy than the ranting original guy who hit me! I try to get into my car and he holds open my door trying to stop me from leaving. Thankfully I manage to yank the door shut and drive off!" she said.

Still shaken from the encounter, Teoh said she drove on only to get stuck in another traffic jam at the Putra World Trade Centre exit.

It was at this point that the incident took a more violent twist.

"The first guy who hit me comes from behind and parks his bike in front of my car, gets off and starts screaming at me and hitting my car, trying to break my window."

"I wind down my window slightly and throw some money out to distract him. He hits the back of my car with a huge thick chain as I drive off and I spend the next 5 minutes driving through as many traffic free streets as I can find to escape him."

Teoh said although she was safe and thankful that she managed to escape unhurt, she realised there were some things that she should not have done.

"Firstly, trust no one! As sad as this is to say, today I really believed it :( I didn't think clearly enough about what I should do in this situation. So I share this story with you in hope(s) that you will think about what you would do in my situation and hopefully you will be better prepared than I was."

"Please drive safely ladies and beware of your surroundings :(."
