Media Prima's giant digital footprint

The Media Prima Group has emerged as the largest domestic digital media asset owner by clinching the highest number of visitors for local web property in August, according to Malaysian Digital Association (MDA) data.

The group was ranked sixth in the "Top 30 Web Properties for Malaysia" with more than 2.14 million visitors, ahead of Maybank Group and, which were ranked eighth and ninth, respectively.

In a statement last Friday, MDA said while international brands continue to comprise the majority of the Top 10 web properties in Malaysia, more local players now feature in the Top 30 list.

The monthly data, provided by international Internet analytics firmcomScore, showed that in Malaysia, Media Prima Group's combined digi tal assets ranked behind international brands such as Google, Facebook, Yahoo, Microsoft and Wikimedia.

Media Prima Digital chief operating office Mohammed Isa said the group's leading position in digital space mirrors that of Media Prima Bhd's position as the nation's largest integrated media group.

"The numbers confirm that we are the largest in terms of digital media, too. We are not a single-brand company as we provide a wide variety of products, from news and entertainment to video sites for a wide range of audience," he said.

"As a result, our business partners and clients have benefited from the biggest and widest local digital access in almost all Malaysian demographics," he added

The group's digital assets include the sites belonging to its three newspapers (The New Straits Times, Berita Harian, Harian Metro); four television stations (TV3, ntv7, 8TV and TV9); three radio stations (Fly FM, Hot FM, and One FM); and several lifestyle sites, including "tonton" and "Gua". has emerged as Malaysia's most popular video site, while, published by Harian Metro, has emerged as the leading Malay language website.

All the group's digital assets are housed under wholly-owned subsidiary Media Prima Digital.

The list also included rankings for the Top 30 local websites.

In first place was Maybank2u, the Internet banking portal for Maybank Group, with more than 2.04 million visitors a month.

The comScore data also showed Malaysians preferred to frequent sites related to news, finance and entertainment.

"More than half of the Top 30 local websites are in the news, finance and entertainment categories," it said.

The MDA represents domestic online publishers, advertising agencies and digital service providers, while Nasdaq-listed comScore is an international digital measuring company.
