Ibrahim Ali incurs wrath of netizens over remarks on Nik Aziz

PETALING JAYA: Perkasa president Datuk Ibrahim Ali angered netizens on Friday after he appeared to criticise late PAS spiritual leader Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat.

In a statement on Friday offering his condolences to Nik Aziz’s family, Ibrahim accused the former Kelantan Mentri Besar of failing to develop the state and falling short in his bid to implement hudud in the state.

“Many Kelantanese look up to him because he is considered an ulama and called Tok Guru (teacher) although he did not really develop Kelantan.

“The progress of Islam in Kelantan has gone nowhere and even hudud has failed to be implemented although he was the MB for more than 20 years,” the former Pasir Mas MP wrote on his Facebook page.

The original posting has since been removed, but not before social media users tore into Ibrahim for being insensitive.

Facebook user Verra Febrina Aide urged the Perkasa president to think first before saying something.

“I do not believe the words (are) coming out of your mouth,” she said in reference to his message of condolence.

“If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all,” tweeted @johanikhlas.

“Ibrahim Ali’s words is not at all respectful and considerate to the feelings of the Kelantanese population,” echoed @Mykakijalan.

@lalalatep, meanwhile, said Ibrahim’s post was “rude and disrespectful”, while @calledramadhan accused the Perkasa chief of having “no conscience whatsoever”.

However, @Obefiend said that Ibrahim had made valid points.

“He is a straight talker and not a revisionist. His timing stinks but the points are there,” he tweeted.

Ibrahim failed to defend his parliamentary seat in the 13th general election, having been defeated by Nik Aziz’s son, Nik Abduh.

Nik Aziz, 84, passed away at his home on Thursday night after a long battle with prostate cancer.
