Angelina Jolie highest-paid female actors - Forbes

Angelina Jolie has overtaken rivals Kristen Stewart, Cameron Diaz and Sandra Bullock to become the highest-paid female star in Hollywood, according to Forbes magazine's annual list.

Despite an absence from the big screen since her voice work on 2011's hit animation Kung Fu Panda II, Jolie made an estimated $33m due largely to a $10m contract with fashion house Louis Vuitton and a $15m salary for her upcoming role as the titular evil stepmother in Disney's upcoming live action Sleeping Beauty reimagination, Maleficent. That was enough for her to leapfrog from fourth place in 2012 to the top spot over the past 12 months, ahead of Hunger Games's Jennifer Lawrence, last year's top earner Stewart and Jennifer Aniston in fourth.

Lawrence, fresh from an Oscar win for Silver Linings Playbook, took second place with $26m, mostly thanks to her earnings from the forthcoming second instalment in the dystopian science fiction series The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, as well as the comic book prequel X-Men: First Class and its upcoming sequel. Stewart's $22m sprang from her roles in the final Twilight film, Breaking Dawn – Part Two, and fantasy film Snow White and the Huntsman last year. Aniston, meanwhile, earned $20m largely from ongoing earnings from the TV series Friends and lucrative commercial endorsements, according to Forbes.

The most notable newcomer on the list was The Amazing Spider-Man's Emma Stone, virtually ubiquitous on the big screen in the past two years. She earned $16m, mostly from the success of the rebooted comic book series.

Elsewhere in the top 10, familiar faces Sandra Bullock, Natalie Portman, Cameron Diaz and Julia Roberts were joined by newcomer Mila Kunis. The latter slipped into ninth spot with $11m thanks to her earnings from blockbuster comedy Ted and hit fantasy prequel Oz the Great and Powerful.

Roberts's continuing presence in the top 10 will be a matter for debate in Hollywood, with the Oscar-winner earning $10m in tenth place despite fantasy fable Mirror Mirror failing to set the box office on fire last year.

Once again the film industry's top female stars failed to match the earnings of their male counterparts. Jolie alone would have made a combined list (in tenth position), with the likes of Robert Downey Jr ($75m) and Channing Tatum ($60m) earning sums that dwarfed her $33m total over the past 12 months.
